Did you know that how you dress can affect your chances of success?
By that we don't mean that your clothes define your worth or who you are as a person. But the truth is that whether we like it or not, we are judged by how we look and how we dress - even if the judgement is sometimes unfair. How you dress simply affects how others perceive you and how you are received, especially in the workplace or in a business context.
Studies have shown that your appearance strongly influences other people's perception of your financial success or whether they feel they can trust you. But also whether you are suitable to be hired, get a raise, take out a loan, etc.
You communicate through your clothing.
Research has also shown that when you combine your appearance with your communication skills, it not only affects how others perceive you, but also how they behave towards you. So the right attire coupled with the right behaviour can be crucial in making someone want to buy your product, get a deal done, or catch your future life partner. So how do you dress for success? Follow these 5 style tips:
1. I want to look at your face - not your legs
This applies to both men and women. The length of your attire is a sign of respect for the occasion and those you meet. Wearing shorter skirts or shorts may indicate a lack of professionalism towards colleagues and clients. The same goes for challenging shirts or blouses. The more you deal with other people and their money, the less skin you should show.
2. Does it smell like pig...
...it's pig. Sounds obvious, but many people think they can get away with wearing that sweater "just one more time" before putting it in the wash. No, you can't.
3. Make the iron your best friend
Use your iron. It makes you look neat and tidy and shows that you take the time to care about yourself and others.
4. Wear clothes that fit you well
Stay away from clothes that are too tight or too big. Having trouble finding clothes that fit well? Go to a tailor who can sew up your trousers or sew in your blouse, shirt or jacket. It will give you a more polished and proper look.
5. Wear appropriate shoes and accessories
Do not wear jewelry that is too showy, and always wear comfortable shoes suitable for work. If you wear makeup, don't overdo it – less is more.
